Abortion – The Truth

Abortion – The Truth

The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing between.  Mother Teresa

The purpose of the article is to inspire women to take the greatest of care to prevent pregnancy rather than to terminate. If you are sexually active, and you are not ready for a pregnancy, you should be on contraception – period. In a perfect world, no woman would ever need to end a pregnancy. But in reality, one in three women will have at least one abortion by the time she is 45.

When does life start?

Scientific Fact: Life starts with conception, not with birth.

Human Life comes into existence in just a fraction of an instant. You have a human egg and a human sperm and their sole purpose in life is to meet each other and fuse, to create a one cell human being.
Within this single cell there is an elaborate and complete plan for development.

In that fraction of a second when the chromosomes form pairs, the sex of the new child will be determined, hereditary characteristics received from each parent will be set, and a new life will have begun.

How many abortions are done in South Africa?

Half of all pregnancies in South Africa end in abortion. (Statistics for legal abortions : + 80 000 per year)

Of these 25 % are second trimester abortions (13-26 weeks).

What you need to know:

  • Abortion is a big deal and should never be viewed lightly. It should not be used as a contraceptive method.  Abortion is not the way to plan your family. Contraception is a good way to plan.
  • Medical professionals prefer to save lives, not to take lives. Many medical professionals who you approach for abortion, might be reluctant to help you. They may choose not to perform abortions, although it is legal for them to do so.
  • Contraception still remains your responsibility – not that of the government, although they legalized abortion up till 12 weeks of pregnancy.
  • There are too few health professionals trained to do second trimester abortions in South Africa. Many government hospitals do not offer the service any more because of that reason.

The ugly truth about abortion

The abortion lobby masks the procedure in euphemisms. Terminating the pregnancy, tissue mass, product of conception. The majority of the public has no clue about what abortion really does to a child in the womb; how developed the child actually is during an abortion; and the risks of abortion to the mother’s health and safety.

The following information and videos was supplied by Dr. Anthony Levantino, a former abortionist who turned against killing unborn children.

What happens during a 1st trimester abortion?

Abortion pills are used up to nine weeks into the pregnancy. It has a high failure rate statistically, so some women will have to come back for an aspiration (suction) abortion.

Sucking the baby out of the womb through a tube is the most frequently performed abortion. A suction catheter is inserted into the womb to extract the fetus. At this point in the pregnancy, when most aspiration abortions are done, the preborn baby has a heartbeat, fingers, legs, toes, and bones that are still weak and fragile.

The suction catheter is then turned on, tearing the baby apart as it is sucked through the catheter into a tube.

What happens during a 2nd Trimester abortion?

Dilation and Evacuation

During the second trimester, a sopher clamp and speculum are used to dismember the unwanted baby from the womb. Limb by limb, the baby is torn apart by the sopher clamp and eventually the skull is crushed into pieces that can then be pulled out through the cervix.

What happens during a 3rd Trimester Abortion?

Injection And Stillbirth
The third trimester abortion kills an infant that is almost fully developed and viable. Usually, a lethal dose of digoxin is injected into the baby, causing cardiac arrest. Then, birth is medically induced to cause the baby to be delivered stillborn.

My Abortion Story

“I was scared. I asked them if it’d hurt and they’d say, ‘Just relax.’ I remember they have a lot of people waiting. They don’t have a lot of time so it’s kinda like, you got to get this over with and get you out.”

I was just 14, and abortion was my choice. In the beginning, my relationship with my new boyfriend seemed like a dream.

“I really flourished in that, I really wanted to be with him all the time. I wanted the attention and the affection. “We really were planning to get married, but I never made up my mind that I wasn’t going to have sex. So then when you’re into that situation you just kinda go with the flow — whatever happens, which was what happened with me.”

When I found out I was pregnant, I went to a girlfriend for some advice…

“I said, ‘An abortion?’ And she said, ‘Yeah. It’s just a simple procedure. You go in and out, and it’s like you’re never pregnant.’ I said, ‘How do you know?’ And she said, ‘Because I had one,’ and she started naming people that I knew.

My parents drove me to the abortion clinic. Things were plenty tense already, then protestors came banging on our car.

I knew I was doing something wrong. “I felt like I needed to have the abortion. So no matter what, this is what I had to do. I’d have to just deal with the rest of it later.”

The worst part was still to come …

“I do remember the sound of the suctioning machine, I was crying. Then the nurse came to me. The doctor told her to calm me down. So she came over and said, ‘You were woman enough to have sex. You’re woman enough to take this. You need to stop that crying.’

“It was a major turning point in my life. I felt a huge, huge loss. I knew immediately after the abortion that that was my baby. I was angry at myself. I was angry at him for getting me pregnant. I was angry at my parents for not talking to me more about sex. I was angry at the doctor for treating me that way. I was angry at God because I had asked Him, ‘Please, don’t let me get pregnant.’”

I tried several methods to escape my guilt and anger…

“It just got worse because I was on the birth control pill, I was drinking, smoking dope, taking pills… I didn’t care.”

And that continued for seven years. Then came an unexpected bend in the road.

“At 21 years old the guy I was dating took me to church, I hear the gospel for the first time, and I start hearing that God loves me the way that I am. I start hearing positive things and not just condemning things about sins.

“When I prayed and asked God, truly from my heart, for repentance. I asked Him to forgive me for the abortion, for all my sins, to come into my heart, and be my Savior. At that moment, I just felt God wrap His arms around me and say, ‘ I love you. I love you more than anything in this world, and it does not matter to me what anyone else thinks about you.’”

A few years later I married, and in time had a baby. But I still hadn’t dealt with my “baggage.” So I started really studying the Bible like never before.

“God walked me through the process of dealing with the anger, the unforgiveness, the depression, and then finally accepting His forgiveness and knowing that I’m healed.”

For years I have been counseling women at crisis pregnancy centers, helping them see what’s true about abortion and what’s not.

The mistruth about abortion? “That abortion is safe. Abortion is just a ‘simple procedure.’ You’re in and out like having your tonsils taken out. That it’s not painful. That there are really minor complications, if any. Another lie that women might believe is that there’s no psychological consequences, emotionally, physically, spiritually. God has just put a calling on my life that everything that Satan had used for evil God was going to take it and turn it into something amazing and beautiful like Jesus.”

If we do not protect the weakest and most helpless among us, we have failed as a civilized society.
